I've posted your midterm exam 2 grades, along with quizzes and homeworks so far. (See the long news item below if you've forgotten how to get to your grades page.)

I've also posted a guaranteed, curved grading scale, and your projected final letter grade based on that scale (assuming your final exam score is the same as the average of your midterm scores, and homework and quiz averages stay the same). This will give you a good idea of whether you're doing okay or if you want to study harder for the final exam.

Some notes:

- if you've made arrangements with me to miss an exam, etc., the missed score will show as a zero. I'll fix this at the end of the term, but the upshot is that your projected grade will be too low. If you're worried, you can calculate your projected grade or get in touch with me to figure it out.

- I've raised the number of dropped quizzes to 4 (from 3 on the syllabus) due to the large number of illnesses. This means you can miss about 2 solid weeks of class without any quiz penalty.

Also, let me reiterate that the midterm survey is open through next Wednesday, so please fill it out. I'm repeating the last announcement from Blackboard below.

Cheers,
Dan

Fri Nov 13 04:00:00 PST 2009

It is a bit past the middle of the term, and I'd like to get your feedback on how the course is going so far. Normally in courses you give feedback in the course evaluations in the last week of class (which helps for future classes), but this is your chance to give feedback that I can implement *this* term. So please take a minute to let me know your thoughts, and complete the anonymous survey.

Please respond to the questions, especially with suggestions for how to improve the course. Your answers are anonymous (Blackboard will show who completed the survey, but won't keep track of who submitted any particular response). Remember that useful feedback pertains to stuff that both affects the quality of the course and is actually within my control.

I'll keep the survey open until Wednesday at midnight. I'll then post your (anonymous) responses online, along with my comments.

To fill out the survey:
1. Log into Blackboard and navigate to this course (PHYS 152) under "My courses".
2. On the left-hand side of the screen, click on the "Midterm Feedback" link.
3. Then click on the "Midterm Feedback" link.
4. Answer each question as completely as you can. Be sure to click "submit" when you're finished.

Cheers,
Dan

Supplementary notes on loudness and hearing phenomena posted on the notes page. Note that the text is fairly bare-bones until I get more time to do more writing; the point is to post the sound demos from class so you can hear them again if you like. As far as I know, the embedded sound clips will only play in Acrobat Reader (free software from Adobe), but there are also hyperlinks in the document so you can also hear the same clips as mp3 files in your web browser.
